So many of you are “Checking-In” on Facebook. And I bet you are wondering about the pleasant aroma that is emanating from the Bath Salts that you are being sent home with. The main scent that you are probably picking up on is Ylang Ylang. Now, many people who are familiar with Ylang Ylang, may know that it can be an aphrodisiac. However, what many are not familiar with, is that is a great essential oil for when you are feeling emotionally down. Since our theme of the month is Gratitude, I picked Ylang Ylang because it is an essential oil that helps to lift your mood and encourages feelings of Gratitude.
In case you were wondering, Ylang Ylang is pronounced “Eee-lang Eee-Lang.” Ylang Ylang actually originates from the Philippines and means “Flower of all Flowers” or “Fragrance of all Fragrances.” Pretty powerful, huh? Ylang Ylang is one of the best essential oils for relaxation, calming the mind, lifting your mood and generating a sense of happiness and gratitude. It also has a sedative quality on the nervous system, which helps to ease anxiety.
Interesting fact: In Indonesia, Ylang Ylang petals are scattered on the beds of newlyweds. It is commonly used in perfumes. In Oriental Medicine, Ylang Ylang ha d been shown to have major calming effects on the heart.
So, have you taken a bath in the bath salts yet? You should!
I have 2 suggestions:
For expression of Gratitude:
- 1 Cup of Epsom Salt
- 8 Drops of Yland Ylang
- 5 Drops of Cedarwood
- Put Drops of Ylang Ylang and Cedarwood into the Epsom Salt
- Take a Bath and Put the Epsom Salt mixture under the water,
- Run under warm water, let Epsom salts dissolve
- Soak for 10-20min
For a relaxing, yet uplifting Blend
- 2 oz of a vegetable oil
- 8 Drops of Ylang Ylang
- 4 drops of Lime.
- Stir gently and rub a bit on you chest.
I encourage you to take part in being Grateful this Holliday season. Make sure that you take care of yourself. Get a Massage. Get some Acupuncture. Maybe take a yoga class to distress from the day. Or, maybe join in in one of our Nutrition or Meditation classes that might remind you to be mindful this season.
